I picked up on an older subject matter/publish where others which have said that a barrel having the “Oval P” might have been equipped by Winchester:

I can't determine precisely once the “Oval P” was very first used depending on my get the job done but I will make this observation. The Oval P proof stamp is simply found on barrels which have a Design and style 3 barrel deal with which is found to the left side of your barrel. This position was not common right until 1910 to the Design 1892 rifles. No barrel that has one among the sooner barrel tackle types or best of barrel positions are marked having an “Oval P” proof.

The result was a new line of guns which changed a lot of the more mature products in 1963–1964. The quick reaction of the shooting press and public was overwhelmingly unfavorable: the popular verdict was that Winchester experienced sacrificed high-quality to the “cheapness industry experts,” and Winchester was no longer regarded as being a prestige brand name, causing a marked loss of industry share. To this day, gun collectors contemplate “article-sixty four” Winchesters to become each a lot less fascinating and fewer useful than their predecessors.

Various of those remain in production now by means of firms for instance Browning, Rossi, Navy Arms and others which have revived various with the discontinued models or made reproductions.
